Business Development Director – US Defense Sector

Position Overview

We seek a seasoned Business Development Director specializing in the U.S. Defense Sector to join our global team. This role will be based in the U.S., aligning with Ericsson’s strategic focus on expanding its presence in the North American market.

As a business development leader, you will manage strategic programs and initiatives aimed at driving impactful market development, boosting US Defense sector mobile communications innovation to evolve towards next generations, and ensuring alignment with Ericsson’s strategic goals within the defense sector. This global position offers a unique opportunity to shape how defense organizations leverage mission-critical connectivity for operational excellence and influence Ericsson’s market leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • US Innovation Focus: Collaborate with Ericsson US local teams towards innovation within the U.S. Defense sector's mobile communications ecosystem, aligning strategies with Ericsson's goals to develop and deploy leading-edge solutions in support of the DoD's FutureG plans.
  • Strategic Initiatives: Oversee the execution of strategic initiatives aimed at removing barriers, strengthening partnerships, and boosting US Defense sector mobile communications innovation.
  • Market Engagement: Engage with senior executives across industries to position Ericsson as a leader in MCN innovation, aligning offerings with strategic goals and driving industry forum participation.
  • Cross-Functional Coordination: Lead cross-functional teams working on high-impact market and business development programs, mentoring junior team members to build organizational capability in defense business development.
  • Performance Oversight: Ensure market development initiatives are well-documented, tracked against milestones, and lead to measurable results for Ericsson.
Minimum Requirements
  • Deep understanding of the critical communications market, including industry dynamics, regulations, and ecosystems.
  • Experience in business development and procurement processes with government and public defense agencies.
  • Knowledge of operational requirements and delivery models for defense communications solutions.
  • Understanding of complex technology implementation in defense communications, mapping operational needs to technical solutions.
  • Experience with long lifecycle business models and total cost of ownership cycles.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field with solid understanding of the mobile communications market.
  • At least 10 years of experience in the US Defense sector, including business development, government procurement, or critical communications roles.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to adapt and lead change.
  • Resilience and perseverance in navigating long sales cycles.
  • Customer-oriented approach with strong analytical skills.
  • Experience working in diverse, multinational environments with excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and execute strategic initiatives that influence industry standards and align with long-term company goals.
