Smithfield Foods, Inc. is seeking an Automation Engineer to lead controls and automation strategy across global operations. You will standardize architectures, validate systems, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance while collaborating with international teams and OEMs.

The role emphasizes innovation in digital manufacturing, robotics, and AI-enabled inspection, with extensive travel and impact on capital projects. A strong background in PLCs, HMIs, and safety systems is essential.

Qualificações

• Bachelor's degree plus 5+ years in automation, controls, robotics, or manufacturing engineering.
• Strong knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, industrial networking, controls architecture, and machine safety systems.
• Experience qualifying and validating manufacturing equipment.
• Experience with robotics, machine vision, inspection technologies, and safety systems.
• Experience with global engineering teams, international OEMs, and multi-site manufacturing organizations.
• Knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, RIA, NFPA, UL, and electrical code requirements.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.
• Ability to travel domestically >50% and internationally as required.

Responsabilidades

• Lead the development, review, and standardization of controls architectures, PLCs, HMIs, industrial networks, data collection platforms, and enterprise automation standards across global operations.
• Lead qualification, validation, and acceptance testing of automation, robotics, machine vision, inspection technologies, and advanced manufacturing systems.
• Conduct machine safety assessments and controls reviews to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
• Partner with U.S., China, and WH Group engineering teams to evaluate and transfer proven automation technologies across facilities.
• Collaborate with OEMs and technology developers to develop next-generation automation and digital manufacturing solutions.
• Evaluate and qualify processing controls, packaging systems, robotics, machine vision, X-ray, metal detection, checkweighing, traceability, and end-of-line automation solutions.
• Conduct supplier audits, factory evaluations, equipment reviews, and system validation to identify risks early in projects.
• Serve as the controls/automation lead for strategic capital projects including design reviews and implementation support.
