Smithfield Foods, Inc. is seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to lead the qualification, deployment, and standardization of controls, robotics, machine vision, and end-of-line automation across global operations.

This role partners with U.S. and WH Group teams to vet technologies, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive safe, scalable digital manufacturing solutions. Travel >50% domestically and internationally will be required.

Competenze

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, Robotics Engineering and 5+ years of relevant experience.
Strong knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, industrial networking, controls architecture, and machine safety systems.
Experience with robotics, machine vision, inspection technologies, and safety systems.
Experience working with global engineering teams, international OEMs, and multi-site manufacturing organizations preferred.
Knowledge of OSHA, ANSI, RIA, NFPA, UL, and electrical code requirements.
Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.
Ability to travel domestically greater than 50% and internationally as required.

Mansioni

Lead the qualification and deployment of controls, robotics, machine vision, inspection, and automation technologies across global operations.
Serve as the technical authority for automation architecture, machine safety, controls integration, and regulatory compliance.
Collaborate with U.S., China, and WH Group teams to evaluate and transfer proven automation technologies and best practices.
Develop and implement next-generation automation, robotics, machine vision, and digital manufacturing solutions with OEMs and internal stakeholders.
Evaluate processing controls, packaging systems, robotics, machine vision, X-ray, metal detection, and end-of-line automation for performance and scalability.
Conduct supplier audits, factory evaluations, equipment reviews, and system validation to identify risks early in projects.
Lead capital projects as the controls, automation, or engineering lead and SME for design reviews and implementation support.
