Job summary

Smithfield Foods, Inc. seeks an experienced Automation Engineering leader to drive controls architecture, PLC/HMI standards, and global technology transfer for processing and packaging lines.

You will collaborate with international engineering teams and OEMs to deploy scalable automation solutions and ensure regulatory compliance. This role requires extensive travel (domestic and international) and leadership of capital automation projects, with emphasis on safety, data integration, and scalable

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls, Automation, Robotics or related field with 5+ years of related experience.
• Strong knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, industrial networks and machine safety systems.
• Experience qualifying and validating manufacturing equipment and working with global teams is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead development, review, and standardization of controls architectures, PLCs, HMIs, networks, data platforms and automation standards across global operations.
• Lead qualification, validation, and acceptance testing of automation, robotics, machine vision, inspection technologies, and advanced manufacturing systems.
• Conduct machine safety assessments and controls reviews to ensure regulatory compliance and identify risks.
• Partner with U.S., China, and WH Group teams to transfer and standardize automation technologies across facilities.
