Job summary

GHJ is recruiting on behalf of a mission-driven nonprofit organization for a GL Accountant to support general ledger accounting and financial reporting. The role focuses on month-end close, reconciliations, grant accounting, budgeting, and financial analysis within a collaborative environment that emphasizes teaching and growth.

The GL Accountant will partner with operational teams, manage journal entries and close processes, and contribute to audit schedules and capital projects as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with a concentration or significant coursework in Accounting.
• 3–5+ years of accounting experience with strong general ledger experience.
• Strong Excel skills.
• Experience with month-end close, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Collaborative, team-oriented approach with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Self-starter who takes initiative and is eager to learn and grow.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly journal entries, including intercompany activity
• Support accurate and timely month-end and year-end close processes
• Prepare and review monthly financial statements and financial reports
• Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations
• Review AP and cash receipt activity for proper general ledger coding
• Coordinate grant revenue recognition, accruals, billing, and reporting
• Analyze financial results and investigate budget variances
• Assist with annual budgeting and internal and external audit schedules
• Partner with operational teams to resolve accounting and reporting questions
• Support capital project tracking and other accounting projects as needed

The GL Accountant will be responsible for general ledger and financial reporting for assigned units, with significant involvement in month‑end close, reconciliations, grant accounting, budgeting, and financial analysis.
