Job summary

The City of Battle Creek is seeking an intermediate GIS Technician to update and maintain the City’s Geographic Information System (GIS), supporting multiple city departments with maps and spatial data.

Under limited supervision, you will administer the work order system, conduct field surveys, create GIS features, and produce maps and reports while training others in GIS tools and techniques.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with GIS/geography/engineering coursework and at least one year of GIS experience.
• Experience with ESRI software and GPS hardware; data collection preferred.
• Valid driver's license in Michigan.

Responsibilities

• Administers and supports City work order management system.
• Conducts field surveys of utilities to prepare and update maps, data, and records.
• Assists with development of all GIS features based on the needs of users within the City.
• Provides technical support for internal and external users of City GIS data and layers.
• Prepares and produces maps, and other GIS products displaying layers and attribute data; uses cartographic techniques to represent spatial data; generates reports and extracts data from the GIS database.
• Manages online map services to be consumed by internal and external users.
• Develops technical/application user manuals and provides software training.
