Job summary

Volusia County is seeking a Software Engineer I/II to support GIS operations in DeLand, FL. The role involves coding and testing GIS solutions, maintaining maps and spatial data, and supporting dashboards and mobile data collection tools for Resource Stewardship and Parks Recreation and Culture divisions.

The candidate should have a strong GIS foundation, be detail oriented, and eager to learn new workflows. A driver’s license and willingness to travel or work at county locations may be required.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED and five years of GIS/Geospatial experience or related field plus programming experience.
• Bachelor's degree in GIS/Gegeomatics/Geospatial or related field and one year of programming experience.
• A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum requirements.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of hire.
• Must obtain a Florida driver’s license within 30 days of hire and maintain thereafter.

Responsibilities

• Code and test computer systems; create, edit, and maintain GIS layers, maps, and related data.
• Support GIS datasets related to conservation lands, trails, roads, and environmental projects.
• Assist with web maps, dashboards, Survey123 forms, Field Maps projects, and Esri-based tools.
• Create and maintain technical documentation.
• Assist with the implementation of new systems.
• Help staff collect, review, update, and visualize field data.
• Prepare maps, reports, data summaries, and presentation materials.
