Job summary

Dorchester County is seeking a GIS-focused technician to support the Assessor’s Office with map preparation and record maintenance. This full-time role involves converting maps to digital databases, interpreting field notes, and producing digital layouts for planners and engineers.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED plus coursework or a year of college, with at least two years of GIS mapping experience.

Qualifications

Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one year of college.
Two years of GIS mapping, abstracting or related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

Performs survey reviews in conjunction with the appropriate planning agency.
Converts existing maps and/or engineering drawings to a computerized database.
Interprets and plots survey field notes; plans as well as creates layouts from engineering notes through computer-assisted programs.
Assembles technical data on many different forms or in special formats for use and analysis by planners, engineers, other professionals and County staff.
Develops and produces presentation graphics and materials.
Develops maps, graphics and/or engineering drawings from sketches, verbal information or from field observations, using coordinate geometry.
Coordinates minor technical projects as assigned.
Maintains logs, records and files related to work assignments.
Receives and responds to inquiries regarding property and/or tax issues.
Performs general clerical work and supports coordination with other departments and outside agencies.
