Job summary

Xcel Energy is seeking a GIS Intern in Minneapolis, MN to assist with legal description mapping, data creation, and site location analysis. This internship offers hands-on experience in GIS, data preparation, and project support within the Geospatial Electric Transmission department.

The role requires current enrollment in Geography, GIS, or Geospatial Science, with the ability to work full-time in summer (up to 40 hours) and part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours) at our hybrid work

Qualifications

Current student, junior or higher
Enrolled in accredited college/university pursuing a Geography, GIS, or Geospatial Science degree
Able to work full-time during summer (up to 40 hours/week) or part-time during school year (up to 20 hours/week) in-person per hybrid policy
Preferred: GIS I or equivalent course
Experience producing maps with ArcGIS and Illustrator, plus other mapping software
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook
Reliable and able to prioritize and work independently

Responsibilities

Create, prepare and maintain GIS layers, applications and data sets for projects
Translate legal land descriptions and PLSS data to cartographic representations
Work with GIS team to develop data standards, program goals and maintenance procedures
Create exhibits and landowners lists for the project team
