Job summary

The City of Billings is seeking a GIS Analyst to perform intermediate to advanced spatial analysis, design, configure, and maintain web-based GIS applications and mobile field data collection workflows across City departments.

Under general supervision, you will manage spatial database quality, automate workflows with Python/ArcPy, and provide technical support, training, and open data deliverables to municipal programs; candidates must have strong ESRI experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, or closely related field.
• 4–6 years of professional GIS experience with Esri ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise/Portal, web app configuration, and enterprise spatial datasets.
• Master's degree in Geography, GIS, CS, or related field plus 2–4 years GIS experience.
• Valid Montana driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
• Ability to pass Federal and State criminal history background check.

Responsibilities

• Perform intermediate to advanced spatial analysis, geoprocessing, and map production to support municipal initiatives.
• Configure and maintain web-based GIS applications and dashboards.
• Configure and support mobile GIS applications for field data collection.
• Automate routines with Python/ArcPy for data transfers and reporting.
• Ensure QA/QC on enterprise geodatabases and maintain data integrity.
• Provide technical support and training across City departments.
