Position Details

Location of (1) Position to be Filled: Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, Davidson County

Working Title: GIS and Database Manager

The GIS and Database Manager will manage real property and conservation data across Tennessee. The successful candidate will:

  1. Have a proven history of geospatial database creation, management, and deployment
  2. Demonstrate ability to convey complex analysis through cartography
  3. Support experience administering and deploying ESRI software and applications

All duties will be performed at the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency headquarters in Nashville, TN. This is an on-site position.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and two years of experience in:

  • Software applications development for GIS, or
  • Creation of maps or reports using GIS software or hardware

Substitutions: Experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis up to four years in areas such as geospatial measurement work or information systems work. Graduate coursework in geography may substitute for experience up to one year. Alternatively, attainment of GIS Professional Certification qualifies.

Examination Method: Education and Experience (100%) for Preferred Service positions.

Overview

Summary: Responsible for GIS work involving analysis and evaluation of equipment and software, performing related tasks as required.

Distinguishing Features: This is a supervisory or advanced analyst role within the GIS series, involving management or complex analysis work, differing from GIS Manager who supervises a unit.

Responsibilities

Data Acquisition:

  • Request and collect data from various sources

Data Analysis and Application:

  • Perform spatial analysis, research existing datasets, select data collection methods, and integrate GIS into agency applications.

System Evaluation and Upgrades:

  • Evaluate industry standards, assess software/hardware needs, and implement upgrades.

Development and Implementation:

  • Write source code, test applications, create data products, and deploy GIS solutions.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain archives, document projects, and report progress to management.

Communication and Troubleshooting:

  • Correspond with external parties, troubleshoot GIS issues, and monitor system performance.

Training and Supervision:

  • Train users, develop curricula, assign tasks, and supervise staff.

Project Management:

  • Plan projects, establish milestones, and ensure quality standards.
