Primary Duties
- Utilizes a variety of data sources and data types to provide data analysis, queries, and applications for various clients, primarily as it relates to the geographic component. Presents analysis to various levels of stakeholders within the organization.
- Provides GIS-related technical support to the Technical Services, Operations, IT, and other end-user clients.
- Provides training and mentoring to others involved in geographic information systems and related activities.
- Serves as a resource for emerging and changing technologies as they relate to geographic information systems.
- Designs, utilizes, and updates customized databases to facilitate communication of GIS data in graphical, tabular, or presentation formats.
- May represent the company as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on internal and external committees and projects regarding GIS issues and data, including collaborations with other utilities, contractors, and regulators.
- Assists in the design, development, and implementation of GIS applications, procedures, and practices, establishing techniques and standards.
- May oversee daily project activities and delegate work assignments.
- Maintains a working knowledge of satellite and aerial photography, cartographic principles, datums, and projections.
Minimum Requirements
- Educational/Experience Level: Bachelor's degree in GIS or related field and two years of related experience in GIS administration and/or programming; or equivalent.
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate technical or complex concepts effectively to individuals with little or no technical background, both internally and externally.
- Numeric Skills: Ability to perform algebraic, trigonometric, geometric operations, and analyses involving ratios, percentages, and moderately complex statistical or accounting methods.
- Computer Skills: High proficiency with programming languages for writing, modifying, and executing programs.
- Work Conditions: Office environment with occasional outdoor field work; occasional out-of-town overnight travel. Activities include sitting, repetitive wrist movements, and gaze shifting; occasional bending, stooping, grasping, reaching, twisting, turning, and lifting.
