Job summary

Ponavanset Middle School is seeking a Girls Basketball Head Coach to lead players after school hours. The role focuses on skill development, discipline, teamwork, and academics, while guiding student athletes toward personal growth through competition.

The coach reports to the Athletic Director and Principal, coordinates with other coaches, ensures safety, and maintains high standards of sportsmanship and leadership within the program.

Qualifications

• Experience coaching adolescent age students in competitive sports.
• Meets Rhode Island standards for coaching eligibility including BCI checks and First Aid/CPR/AED.
• Completion of NFHS coaching and safety courses is required or equivalent.
• Citizenship, residency or work visa required.

Responsibilities

• Coaches individual participants, groups, and teams in skills for a successful experience.
• Supervises team members and teams at all times.
• Implements RI IL rules, district policies, and student development expectations.
• Monitors academic performance and emphasizes academics alongside athletics.
• Acts as a role model, showing respect to officials and opponents under stress.
• Schedules practices and games with the athletic director and other coaches.
• Informs athletic director about facilities, equipment, and uniforms.
• Communicates team matters with the athletic director regularly.
• Notifies athletic director of safety concerns and potential risks.
• Delegates coaching tasks to assistants and volunteers.
• Performs other duties assigned by the athletic director and principal.
