Job summary

Ponaganset Middle School is seeking a Wrestling Head Coach (after school/evening). The coach will guide student athletes toward skill development, sportsmanship and academic balance under the supervision of the Athletic Director and Principal.

The role emphasizes safety, policy compliance, and collaboration with school staff to schedule practices and competitions while supporting student growth and team success.

Qualifications

• Experience coaching adolescent age students in competitive sports.
• Meets Rhode Island/RIIL requirements and background checks.
• Current First Aid/CPR/AED certificate.
• NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Course required.
• NFHS Concussion in Sports Course (annual).
• NFHS Protecting Students From Abuse (annual).
• NFHS RI State Component Course (new coaches).
• NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest Course (annual).
• NFHS Implicit Bias Course (annual).
• NFHS Student Mental Health and Suicide Prevention (annual).
• NFHS Heat Illness Prevention (annual).
• NFHS Title IX
• NFHS Sportsmanship
• Citizenship, residency or work visa required

Responsibilities

• Coaches individual participants, small groups and teams, in the skills necessary for a successful experience.
• Supervises individual team members and teams at all times.
• Knows and implements most current rules, regulations and policies (RI IL, district policies).
• Works with school officials to monitor academic performance and stress high academics.
• Models respectful conduct toward officials, competitors, visitors and observers.
• Works with athletic director and other coaches to schedule practices and games.
• Informs AD of condition of facility, equipment and uniforms.
• Communicates with AD about team members and issues.
• Notifies AD of actions or conditions affecting safety.
• Delegates coaching responsibilities to assistants and volunteers.
• All other duties as defined by the athletic director and principal.
