Qualifications

• Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
• Has previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport.
• The head coach must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and examine new theories and procedures.
• Must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through actions and instructions.

Responsibilities

• Has thorough knowledge of athletic policies and ensures staff implements them.
• Understands regulations and interprets them for staff.
• Follows proper command structure and attends required meetings.
• Designs conferences, clinics, and staff meetings to ensure staff awareness.
• Trains and informs staff, encourages professional growth via clinics.
• Delegates duties, supervises implementation, and evaluates staff.
• Maintains discipline, resolves grievances, and boosts morale.
• Performs other duties assigned by athletic director/principal.
• Assists athletic director in scheduling, transportation, and events.
• Prepares for events and adheres to facility times; coordinates with maintenance and staff.
• Provides documentation for state requirements and eligibility.
• Safeguards equipment and sites, and protects property.
• Advises athletic director and recommends policy changes.
• Mentors athletes to develop character traits and sportsmanship.
• Monitors athlete grades and conduct.
• Ensures guidance and safety during practices and travel.
• Communicates training rules and sport regulations to athletes.
• Initiates injury policies and medical response plans.
• Completes injury paperwork within 24 hours.
• Directs student managers, assistants, and statisticians.
• Determines discipline and handles due process with parents when needed.
• Assists athletes with college/advanced education choices.
• Participates in budgeting and equipment planning for next season.
• Keeps inventory and maintains equipment records.
• Manages equipment storage and reconditioning.
• Marks and identifies all equipment.
• Monitors equipment rooms and staff offices for security.
• Ensures athletes stay in authorized areas.
• Inspects locker rooms for cleanliness and equipment care.
• Secures facilities before leaving.
• Inspires respect for equipment and school property.
• Organizes preseason meetings and promotes the sport externally.
• Maintains good relations with media, boosters, parents, officials, and fans.
• Provides schedules and competition results to media.
