Job summary

Poplar Bluff School District is seeking an Assistant Coach to support the Head Coach in practice planning, skill development, and game-day prep within a positive, inclusive program.

This role emphasizes sportsmanship, academic success, and student-athlete growth, with expectations to align with district policies and state association rules, while maintaining safety and program integrity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in education preferred or minimum of 36 college hours or online 20-hour substitute training.
• Valid Missouri Teacher Certificate preferred
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Skills in human relations, leadership, and conflict management
• Knowledgeable of coaching techniques that meet the diverse needs of students
• Knowledgeable of and adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations.
• Abide by all rules and regulations established by the Poplar Bluff R-I Board of Education.
• Abide by and uphold all rules and regulations established by the Missouri State High School Activities Association.
• Actively pursue the licensure to drive a school bus suitable for the sport they are coaching.

Responsibilities

• Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.
• Assist in making plans and scheduling a regular program of practice in season.
• Work with the Head Coach and Athletic Director in scheduling interscholastic contests.
• Assist in making recommendations to purchase equipment, supplies, and uniforms, as appropriate.
• Assist in maintaining an accurate, up-to-date inventory of all uniforms and equipment as appropriate.
• Assist with necessary attendance forms, insurance records, and similar paperwork.
• Assist in overseeing the safety conditions of the facility or area where the assigned sport is conducted.
• Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times, and assists in establishing penalties.
• Has a good working knowledge of the rules and regulations of the sport he or she is coaching.
• As a representative of the Poplar Bluff R-I School District, the assistant coach will reflect a favorable impression.
