Job summary

Poplar Bluff School District is seeking an Assistant Coach to support the Head Coach and Athletic staff in planning practices, developing players, and preparing for competitions. The role emphasizes sportsmanship, academic growth, and student-athlete development within a positive team culture.

The position involves after-school hours, evenings, and occasional weekends, with responsibilities tied to seasonal sport schedules and district expectations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in education preferred or minimum of 36 college hours.
• Valid Missouri Teacher Certificate preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Skills in human relations, leadership, and conflict management.
• Knowledgeable of coaching techniques meeting diverse needs.
• Adhere to local, state, and federal regulations.
• Follow the Poplar Bluff R-I Board of Education rules.
• Pursue licensure to drive a school bus for the sport coached.

Responsibilities

• Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.
• Assist in planning and scheduling a regular program of practice in season.
• Work with Head Coach and Athletic Director in scheduling interscholastic contests.
• Assist in equipment, supplies, and uniforms purchases and inventory management.
• Assist with attendance forms, insurance records, and related paperwork.
• Oversee safety conditions of the facility where the sport is conducted.
• Establish performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition.
