Poplar Bluff School District is seeking an Assistant Coach to support the Head Coach in training, game-day preparation, and program development. This role emphasizes sportsmanship, student growth, and alignment with district expectations.

The position includes after-school hours, evenings, and occasional weekends, with seasonal commitment and an extra-duty stipend determined by the district’s salary schedule for the sport.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in education preferred or minimum of 36 college hours or online 20-hour substitute training.
• Valid Missouri Teacher Certificate preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Skills in human relations, leadership, and conflict management.
• Knowledgeable of coaching techniques that meet diverse needs of students.
• Adhere to local, state, and federal regulations.
• Abide by Poplar Bluff R-I Board of Education rules.
• Abide by Missouri State High School Activities Association rules.
• Pursue licensure to drive a school bus suitable for the sport coached.

Responsibilities

• Coach individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport involved.
• Assist in planning and scheduling a regular program of practice in season.
• Work with Head Coach and Athletic Director in scheduling interscholastic contests.
• Assist in purchasing equipment, supplies, and uniforms as appropriate.
• Maintain an accurate inventory of uniforms and equipment.
• Assist with attendance forms, insurance records, and similar paperwork.
• Oversee safety conditions of the facility or area used for the sport.
• Establish performance criteria for eligibility in interscholastic competition.
• Enforce discipline and sportsmanship, and oversee penalties for breaches by students.
• Reflect a favorable impression of the school district to other schools and communities.
