Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health seeks a Medical Assistant to support attending physicians and the GI/interventional team, preparing procedural suites, assisting during complex procedures, and coordinating equipment and supplies.

Work with nurses and techs, provide direct patient care in admitting and recovery, perform specimen processing as needed, and maintain a safe, organized unit to support high-quality care.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Associate’s degree in Biological/medical field preferred.
• Medical Assistant Certificate 1 preferred; 1–3 years related experience preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Ability to operate technical and electronic equipment with accuracy.
• Ability to anticipate equipment needs during procedures.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access).

Responsibilities

• Prepares procedural suites for general and advanced GI and/or other interventional procedures.
• Maintains cleanliness and order of the unit and returns kits and supplies to proper areas.
• Facilitates efficient turnover by prioritizing equipment/instrumentation for upcoming cases.
• Processes pathology specimens according to established protocols.
• Performs maintenance and decontamination of endoscopes and diagnostic equipment.
• Ensures equipment and supplies are available for procedures in a timely manner.
• Provides direct patient care in admitting and recovery as directed by the resource nurse.
• Maintains open communication with patients and the GI Unit team.
• All duties falling under Medical Assistant per certificate.
