Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to support both administrative and clinical tasks in a busy practice. You will greet patients, assist with check-in, schedule visits and provide direct patient care under supervision.

The role involves vital signs, phlebotomy, EKGs, specimen collection and entry of clinical notes in the EMR. Excellent communication and basic computer skills are essential for coordinating care and ensuring accurate documentation.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• 0-1 years related work experience required.
• MA, EMT, CNA, LNA certificate or diploma; or at least 5 months of direct patient care experience in a clinical or research setting.
• Phlebotomy Certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs medical assisting duties including vital signs, EKGs, phlebotomy and assisting in routine procedures.
• Monitors and maintains medical equipment, cleans and stocks as needed.
• Reviews medication lists in EMR for clinician final review; handles schedule VI and OTC meds under supervision.
• Performs point-of-care testing and ensures QC for testing equipment.
• Uses EMR to queue renewals and document tasks for billing; enters orders as directed by clinicians.
• Schedules diagnostic and lab tests, verifies insurance, authorizations and referrals.
• Prepares charts and documents for clinical activities; procures medical correspondence as directed.
• Performs check-in with patient data entry, copays, proxies and visit questionnaires.
• Monitors patient flow and waiting area; acts as liaison to ensure smooth delivery of care.
