Job summary

Bethesda Group in Colorado Springs is seeking a Recreation Therapist to develop and implement an outcomes-based program tailored to geriatric care plans. You will perform assessments, create engaging activities, and document progress in alignment with care goals.

The role requires a BS in Recreation/Therapeutic Recreation, CTRS certification, and experience with care plans and interdepartmental collaboration.

Qualifications

• BS Degree in Recreation/Therapeutic Recreation required.
• CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist) required.
• One year of health care experience with a geriatric population.
• Minimum 2 years solid program development and implementation preferred.
• Knowledge of the principles, practices, standards, and techniques of Recreation Therapy.
• Solid background in the care plan process doing assessments, identifying potential problem areas, developing subsequent goals and objectives.
• Possess critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work closely with other departments to provide recreation therapy co-treatments/interventions as needed.
• Demonstrates effective conflict management skills during situations with clients, co-workers and family members while maintaining professionalism.
• Must be a flexible team player able to identify challenges and recommend resolutions.
• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision, meeting all deadlines.
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrate the ability to interact clearly and effectively with both internal and external customers.

Responsibilities

• Assists in initial assessments and formulates initial care plans; documents regularly.
• Develops engaging programs considering participant interests and needs.
• Drives the Recreation Therapy Wellness calendar based on assessments and feedback.
• Provides recreation therapy co-treatments and interventions to other departments.
• Provides training and programmatic feedback to Recreation/Wellness staff.
• Leads and/or assists in large groups, small groups, and individual activities with enthusiasm.
• Assists in organizing special events and supplies management.
• Attends meetings regarding participant care; maintains confidentiality and safety protocols.
