Job summary

Rocky Mountain Health Care Services is seeking a Recreation Therapist to design and implement an outcomes-based program for a frail elderly population. You will support initial assessments, formulate care plans, and maintain six-month and annual documentation with supervision.

Daily documentation, program development, and group activities are core responsibilities. The role includes Leisure Education, staff training, and collaboration with other departments to enhance participant well-being.

Qualifications

• BS Degree in Recreation/Therapeutic Recreation required.
• CTRS certification required.
• Experience with care planning and assessments for geriatric populations.

Responsibilities

• Supports initial assessments and care plan development, with 6-month and annual documentation.
• Daily documentation as assigned by supervisor.
• Develops engaging programs by monitoring participant interests and needs.
• Drives the Recreation Therapy Wellness calendar.
• Provides recreation therapy co-treatments (Leisure Education and Leisure Counseling).
• Trains and gives feedback to Recreation/Wellness Assistants.
• Leads large groups, small groups, one-on-ones and individual activities.
• Assists in organizing special events and in setup/cleanup.

POSITION SUMMARY: Recreation Therapists are responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive, outcomes-based recreation therapy program tailored to the goals as outlined in the care plan process that meet the needs of the frail elderly.MISSION: Improving lives, Optimizing wellness, Promoting independenceRESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Supports the Recreation Therapy team in completing initial assessments, formulating the initial care plan, supporting appropriate 6 - month documentation, and annual assessments. Daily documentation as assigned by the Recreation Therapy and Wellness ManagerDevelops engaging programs by consistently monitoring the diversity of the participants served and their interests/needsDrives the Recreation Therapy Wellness calendar based upon those interests/needs as identified in the initial care plans, assessments, and participant feedbackAbility to provide recreation therapy co-treatments and strategies such as Leisure Education and Leisure Counseling to other program departmentsProvides training and programmatic feedback to Recreation/Wellness AssistantsLeads and/or assists in large groups, small groups one-on-ones, and individual activities (exercise, arts and crafts, games, current events, sensory, etc.) with enthusiasm and purposeAssists in the organizing of special eventsAssists with preparing and cleaning up after activitiesAttends any other meetings regarding participant care as assigned by the Recreation Therapy and Wellness ManagerAssists in the ordering of supplies for the department as requested and maintains equipment in good conditionMaintains the confidentiality of all company procedures, results, and information about participants, clients or familiesHandles potentially infectious specimens with appropriate biohazard precautions, and practices universal precautionsOther duties as requested/assignedBS Degree in Recreation/Therapeutic Recreation requiredCTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist) requiredOne year of health care experience with a geriatric populationMinimum 2 years solid program development and implementation preferredKnowledge of the principles, practices, standards, and techniques of Recreation TherapySolid background in the care plan process doing assessments, identifying potential problem areas, developing subsequent goals and objectivesPossess critical thinking and problem-solving skillsAbility to work closely with other departments to provide recreation therapy co-treatments/ interventions as neededDemonstrates effective conflict management skills during situations with clients, co-workers and family members while maintaining professionalism.
