Job summary

Prime Healthcare in Riverview Regional Medical Center, Gadsden, AL, is seeking a Geri Psych Registered Nurse for full-time night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) with a $4-$8 shift differential. The role focuses on caring for patients with mental health and substance use disorders within an inpatient behavioral health setting.

The nurse will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for psychiatric patients, collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, and provide patient and family education ensuring

Qualifications

• Must have current and valid State license as a Registered Nurse.
• Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current.
• Working knowledge of Mental Health Laws and practice standards.
• Working knowledge of interdisciplinary treatment team process, behavioral health programming and daily nursing functions for inpatient and outpatient behavioral health units.
• Working knowledge of the continuum of care for behavioral health care.

Responsibilities

• Gauges the behavioral health patients' psychiatric state and collaborates with a multi-disciplinary team to support each patient's care plan.
• Demonstrates de-escalation skills and maintains patient safety during restraints or seclusion events.
• Prepares patients and families for safe discharge and therapeutic continuum of care.
• Conducts thorough initial assessments and ongoing evaluations of patients' physical, emotional, and mental health.
• Monitors vital signs, intake/output, and other clinical indicators for changes in condition.
• Recognizes warning signs of deterioration and responds appropriately.
• Safely administers prescribed medications and monitors for adverse effects.
• Acts as liaison between patients, families, and the healthcare team to meet patient needs.
• Provides education on condition, treatment options, and lifestyle changes.
• Communicates with doctors, specialists, therapists, and social workers to adjust care plans.
• Epic computer charting.
