Job summary

Bethesda Health Group is seeking a Staff Physical Therapist Assistant to support the Physical Therapist in delivering goal-directed care and coordinating programs to restore patients to maximum functioning. You will collect information from initial evaluations, set treatment priorities, and adapt interventions to achieve optimal outcomes.

You’ll train caregivers for discharge and ensure smooth transitions back to home or nursing facilities.

Qualifications

• Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program.
• Current State License.
• CPR certification or willingness to obtain within six months of employment.
• 1–2 years of geriatrics experience preferred.
• Qualified new graduates will be considered.
• Must communicate well and demonstrate responsibility, initiative and honesty.
• Demonstrates desire to work with the elderly and rehab populations.
• Extensive mobility, transferring patients, moving equipment, lifting and navigating obstacles.
• Fine motor coordination and visual/perceptual skills for treatment tasks.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Physical Therapist in delivering goal-directed activities to improve function.
• Coordinate programs to restore patients to maximum functioning.
• Carry out treatment programs to achieve optimal outcomes.
• Obtain information from evaluations and prioritize patient treatment.
• Assess and adjust treatment effectiveness as needed.
• Consult with PT for information exchange and collaboration.
• Provide caretaker training for discharge and educate caretakers.
• Communicate discharge needs to the team for smooth transition home or to a facility.
• Perform administrative duties and complete documentation in a timely manner.
• Delegate to and supervise aides where appropriate.
• Mentor students and orient new staff in mobility training.
• Demonstrate effective communication with staff, patients and families.
• Seek supervision as needed.
• May be assigned other duties as appropriate.
