Job summary

NV5 seeks a Project Engineer in California with an Engineer in Training (EIT) or eligibility within 6 months. You will lead a multidisciplinary team of Soil/Concrete Technicians, Special Inspectors, and Laboratory staff on bridges, roadways, schools, and commercial projects.

The role emphasizes problem solving, collaboration, and effective communication while managing budgets and schedules. CA PE license or eligibility within 6–12 months is required or considered for other US states.

Qualifications

• A BS in civil engineering with an emphasis in materials/geotechnical is a plus.
• A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
• CA PE License or obtain within 6-12 months of employment. Open to other US state PE licenses.
• Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, think creatively, and problem-solve.
• Reviewing technical specifications and filed/laboratory reports.
• Knowledge of building codes and construction industry standards.
• Experience with AASHTO and ASTM test methods pertaining to construction materials, including HMA, aggregate, soils, steel, masonry, and concrete.
• Experience reviewing concrete/asphalt mix designs.
• Thorough understanding of accreditation policies for all relevant agencies.

Responsibilities

• Manages special inspectors and technician staff
• Manages projects (bridges, roadway, schools, and commercial) and associated geotechnical budgets
• Prepares and reviews inspection and observation reports submitted to various agencies and other clients.
• Strong knowledge of soils and foundation characterization and engineering.
• Plans, assigns, prioritizes, evaluates, and reviews the work of special inspectors and technicians, and support staff for consistency, accuracy, timeliness, conformance to guidelines, and technical merit.
• Oversees the preparation and submission of timely reports and maintenance of records
• Develops, implements, and interprets policies, procedures, and programs for special inspection and testing
• Oversees laboratory qualifications
