Job summary

Westex Consulting Engineers in Reno, NV is seeking a Civil/Geotechnical Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join the team. You will split your week between project sites and the office to gain hands-on geotechnical experience and log the qualifying experience needed for PE licensure.

Ideal candidates have a Civil Engineering degree, FE/PE pathway, and EIT certification. You’ll perform field tests, data review, and calculations while collaborating with PEs, PMs, and field staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited program.
• Passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
• EIT certification, or ability to complete EIT registration.
• Working knowledge of soil mechanics, civil engineering fundamentals, and construction practices.
• Ability to read construction drawings, plans, and specifications.
• Solid analytical and organizational skills, with clear written and verbal communication.
• Readiness to work both on active job sites and in the office, and to travel to local projects.
• A valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Carry out field investigations, including soil sampling, site evaluations, and in-situ testing.
• Support construction observation and testing for earthwork, foundations, and site development.
• Gather, review, and interpret geotechnical and geologic data.
• Help run engineering calculations and analyses for foundations, grading, earthwork, and slope stability.
• Write field reports, technical memos, and sections of geotechnical reports.
• Check that construction work follows project plans, specifications, and engineering recommendations.
• Schedule and coordinate field and laboratory testing of soils and construction materials.
• Contribute to proposals, scopes of work, cost estimates, and project planning.
• Keep thorough field notes, test records, and project files.
• Work day to day with project managers, PEs, contractors, clients, and field staff, following all applicable codes, standards, and safety practices.
