Job summary

NV5, Inc. is seeking a Resident Engineer/Structure Representative to lead technical and administrative oversight of major bridge and structural construction projects in California.

You will ensure contract compliance, review shop drawings, and verify field dimensions and safety standards on site. The role requires a CA PE license, a Civil Engineering degree, and at least 5 years in heavy civil transportation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field is required.
• California PE license is required.
• Minimum 5 years of experience with heavy civil transportation projects incl. bridge/structural construction.
• Caltrans construction methods and practices, minimum 5 years’ experience.
• Knowledge of stress analysis, structural mechanics, and strength of materials.
• Thorough understanding of Cal/OSHA practices and procedures; familiarity with Caltrans field methods.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical and administrative oversight of structural construction activities.
• Verify contractor work complies with contract documents, shop drawings, plans, specs, and changes.
• Review and evaluate shop drawings, product data, samples, testing documentation, and QA plans.
• Perform or oversee calculations and acceptance of temporary works (falsework, shoring, platforms).
• Verify field controls and elevations meet project requirements.
• Inspect construction progress, materials, equipment, procedures for compliance with standards.
• Identify construction issues and coordinate corrective action with contractor and project leadership.
• Prepare technical reports and status updates for internal and client review.
• Apply engineering principles and codes to evaluate project work.
• Support project records management and document distribution.
