Job summary

King County Materials Lab in Renton, WA seeks an Engineer II to ensure the quality of foundation soils and construction materials for road, drainage, and bridge projects. You will work under supervision on geotechnical and materials testing, maintain documentation, and support project integrity.

The role requires knowledge of soil testing, laboratory testing, and data analysis, with opportunities to contribute to AMRL/CCRL proficiency and lab accreditation activities.

Qualifications

• BSCE in civil engineering with 2 years of engineering experience or 10 years of lab/field testing of construction material.
• Solid understanding of soil testing and geotechnical report requirements.
• Solid understanding of construction material testing and acceptance procedures.
• Ability to learn technical engineering software and summarize data.

Responsibilities

• Review and interpret engineering plans and specs for roads, bridges, and drainage.
• Collect and test construction material samples (aggregate, HMA, concrete).
• Perform nuclear density testing on soils, aggregates, and HMA; Proctor testing.
• Perform geotechnical explorations and soil lab testing/classification.
• Create daily site visit and test reports; participate in geotechnical reports.
