Job summary

Wood Rodgers in Reno, NV is seeking an experienced Laboratory Manager to oversee daily operations of the geotechnical and construction materials testing laboratory, including soils, asphalt, concrete, and aggregate testing. The ideal candidate will lead laboratory staff, ensure compliance with accreditation standards, manage quality systems, and deliver accurate, timely testing services.

This hands-on role requires strong leadership, attention to safety, and the ability to coordinate equipment

Qualifications

• 5+ years in construction materials testing and/or geotechnical lab ops.
• Knowledge of ASTM/AASHTO, accreditation, quality systems.
• Experience managing labs, records, audits, proficiency testing, and compliance.
• Proficiency with MS Office, Lab data systems (LIMS, gINT).
• Ability to lead, supervise, and develop technical staff; strong communication.
• Prior lab management or supervisory experience preferred.
• Current industry certifications preferred; DOT/municipal exposure helpful.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily lab operations for soils, asphalt, concrete, and aggregate testing.
• Ensure compliance with ASTM, AASHTO, agency, and accreditation standards.
• Manage quality systems, audits, proficiency testing, and recordkeeping.
• Coordinate calibration, maintenance, inventory, and procurement of equipment.
• Plan workloads and utilize lab software for data management and reporting.
• Supervise, mentor, and evaluate lab technicians while promoting safety and quality.
• Drive continuous improvement and adoption of lab technologies and processes.
