Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design in Mays Landing, NJ is seeking a Geotechnical Engineering Intern for Summer 2027. The role combines fieldwork and office engineering tasks, including subsurface investigations, data collection, and report preparation.

You will work with geotechnical engineers, technicians, and contractors on diverse projects across the region, gaining hands-on experience and exposure to ArcGIS and Geosystems software while traveling to project sites.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
• Interest in geotechnical engineering, field investigations, and subsurface exploration.
• Familiarity with geotechnical concepts and soil mechanics coursework.
• Exposure to GIS software (ArcGIS).
• Willingness to travel to project sites across South Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania, and Northern Delaware.
• Strong organizational, communication, and technical writing skills.
• Valid driver's license and good driving record.
• Ability to read, write and understand English for job communications.

Responsibilities

• Assist with subsurface exploration programs alongside field technicians.
• Support test borings and soil logging for foundation investigations.
• Participate in test pit explorations and in-situ infiltration testing.
• Learn soil classification methods and assist with soil logging.
• Read and review civil/site development plans and prepare site descriptions.
• Assist with geotechnical report preparation and data presentation.
• Travel to project sites and observe construction-related testing.
