Job summary

Shannon & Wilson, Inc. in St. Louis seeks two Geotechnical Interns for the summer of 2027 to support field observations, lab work, and report preparation.

This is a hands-on opportunity to apply geology and geotechnical coursework on real projects with an employee-owned firm. Candidates should be progressing toward a Geology or Civil Engineering degree, have strong writing and communication skills, and flexibility to travel to field sites.

Qualifications

• Completion of junior year toward Geology or geotechnical civil engineering.
• 0–3 years of experience.
• Coursework in soil mechanics, foundation engineering, slope stability or engineering geology.
• Field observation experience is a plus.
• Excellent writing, organizational and communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
• Ability to travel to field sites as needed.
• Basic computer skills: Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Perform construction observation.
• Assist with field explorations and collection of samples.
• Assist with geotechnical laboratory tests.
• Assist with report preparation.
• Perform geological or engineering analyses and calculations.
• Interact with clients, vendors, and staff at all levels.
• Follow QA policies and Health & Safety policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
