Job summary

ECS Group of Companies is seeking a Geotechnical Field Technician to support field and laboratory testing for geotechnical and construction materials projects. This role is field-based, guiding subsurface exploration, construction observation, and material testing under project managers and senior staff.

You will develop hands-on technical skills, maintain safety, and communicate site conditions daily with contractors and the team, while contributing to project documentation and reports.

Qualifications

• 0 years of related experience
• High school diploma or GED required
• Certifications: Radiation Safety, Soils I, and Concrete I to be completed within defined timelines
• Valid driver's license if driving for ECS
• Strong verbal and written communication
• Ability to read maps, follow directions, and interpret construction plans
• Dependable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently or in a team
• Commitment to safety requirements while operating a motor vehicle

Responsibilities

• Performs boring and test pit layout using surveying techniques and GPS
• Observes and classifies soils, test pits, and subsurface conditions
• Performs hand auger borings, DCP testing, and other field investigations
• Logs soil samples and documents field observations
• Assists with data reduction and field/project documentation
• Performs field testing, sampling, and inspection of construction materials
• Assists with laboratory testing and sample classification
• Communicates daily with contractors, project managers, and team members about site conditions
• Supports preparation of reports, calculations, and documentation
• Maintains field equipment and documentation of test results
• Performs other field, laboratory, or project support tasks as assigned
