Job summary

STV Incorporated is seeking a Geotechnical Lab and Field Services Intern to join our team. The internship offers hands-on experience with underground structures across the United States, combining laboratory testing and field drilling support.

The role requires pursuing a geotechnical/civil engineering degree at an ABET-accredited university, lifting up to 50 pounds, and a willingness to travel for site work.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field at an ABET-accredited university.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds while assisting with lab and field operations.
• Drilling operations may require out-of-town stays.
• Team player with curiosity and desire to learn.

Responsibilities

• Perform soil and rock laboratory testing in accordance with AASHTO and ASTM methods.
• Support engineering staff in developing geotechnical investigation report deliverables (boring layouts, lab data compilation, initial site research).
• Assist in field testing, geotechnical drilling support, sample pickup/delivery, and related tasks.
• Field work will occur in various weather and around construction equipment with exposure to dirt, grease, oils, etc.
• Field work may involve walking over uneven terrain from swampy to mountainous areas; bending or kneeling daily.
• Contribute to planning, organization, development, supervision, and interpretation of geotechnical investigations.
