Job summary

Langan Engineering & Environmental Services seeks an Intern/Co-op – Geotechnical Engineering to join our Chicago team. You will assist with field investigations, data collection, and analysis while gaining exposure to site feasibility studies and design documents.

The role offers hands-on experience in geotechnical reporting, calculations, and the use of AutoCAD, with mentorship from geotechnical leadership. Travel may be required; housing/relocation not provided.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a 4-year or advanced degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering.
• GPA 3.0+ preferred.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail with analytical and multitasking abilities.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning and execution of field investigations, including logging borings and test pits, collecting samples, performing field tests, and recording data.
• Observe foundation and earthwork construction activities; monitor conformance with plans and specifications.
• Identify and implement solutions to field and/or laboratory problems.
• Prepare logs, field forms, and chain of custody records.
• Conduct file reviews, site reconnaissance, and document searches.
• Perform calculations and learn basic geotechnical software.
• Prepare reports and exhibits using AutoCAD.
• Performs other duties as requested.
