Job summary

UES is seeking a Level 2 Geotechnical Engineer to independently manage moderately complex geotechnical projects from planning through completion. This role applies advanced engineering principles in design, analysis, and construction oversight, while mentoring junior staff and supporting client relationships.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or related engineering.
• 5–8 years geotechnical engineering experience.
• EIT certification required; PE license preferred or in progress.
• Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects with minimal oversight.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel.

Responsibilities

• Lead geotechnical investigations from planning through field and lab work.
• Perform analyses including slope stability, settlement, bearing capacity, and seismic design.
• Develop geotechnical reports, specifications, and cost estimates with minimal oversight.
• Oversee foundation design, earth retention, pavement, and ground improvement projects.
• Serve as primary technical contact for clients on assigned projects.
• Review and approve work by junior engineers and technicians.
• Utilize advanced geotechnical software (PLAXIS, GeoStudio, gINT).
• Conduct site visits and construction observations.
• Participate in proposal development and business development activities.
• Provide technical training and guidance to junior staff.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering

Master’s degree preferred
