Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer or EIT to join our NYC or NJ team. This role offers exposure to complex underground infrastructure projects across North America and mentorship from experienced engineers.

You'll assist in design and analysis of tunnel structures, conduct site investigations, and contribute to sustainable, carbon-conscious design initiatives. The position emphasizes collaboration in a hybrid work environment with a minimum three days in the office.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Structural Engineering.
• 1+ years of full-time experience.
• EIT registration preferred but not required.
• Strong foundation in soil/rock mechanics and underground construction.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Plaxis, FLAC, or similar tools.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Enthusiasm for learning and complex infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

• Assist in design and analysis of tunnels, shafts, caverns and underground transit systems.
• Support geotechnical and structural assessments using modeling and design software.
• Prepare technical reports, drawings, and specifications under guidance.
• Participate in site investigations, inspections, and construction support.
• Collaborate with geotechnical, civil, and environmental engineers.
• Contribute to sustainability and carbon-conscious design initiatives.
• Engage in internal knowledge-sharing and professional development.
