Mott MacDonald is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer or EIT to join our NYC or NJ team. This role offers exposure to complex underground infrastructure projects across North America and mentorship from experienced engineers.

You'll assist in design and analysis of tunnel structures, conduct site investigations, and contribute to sustainable, carbon-conscious design initiatives. The position emphasizes collaboration in a hybrid work environment with a minimum three days in the office.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Structural Engineering.
• 1+ years of full-time experience.
• EIT registration preferred but not required.
• Strong foundation in soil/rock mechanics and underground construction.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Plaxis, FLAC, or similar tools.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Enthusiasm for learning and complex infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in site investigations, inspections, and construction support activities
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including geotechnical, civil, and environmental engineers
• Contribute to sustainability and carbon‑conscious design initiatives
• Engage in internal knowledge‑sharing and professional development programs

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Structural Engineering
• 1+ years of full‑time experience
• Registered or eligible for registration as an Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT) preferred but not required
• Strong academic foundation in soil and/or rock mechanics, structural analysis, and underground construction
• Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Plaxis, FLAC, or similar tools
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Enthusiasm for working on complex infrastructure projects and learning from industry leaders

Preferred Experience

• Exposure to tunnel excavation methods such as tunnel boring machines (TBM), NATM / SEM, or cut‑and‑cover methods
• Advanced degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Structural Engineering
