Job summary

The Columbia, SC office of Schnabel Engineering is seeking an Engineering/Scientific Technician to join our growing practice. This role is ideal for graduates with science-based majors who want to gain entry into the consulting engineering field and work outdoors on projects that help build the nation’s infrastructure.

Qualifications

• High School degree required.
• Valid US Driver’s License.
• Strong oral and written communication and organizational skills.
• Physically able to lift 50–75 pounds occasionally and work outdoors.
• Preferred: BS in geology, earth sciences, physics, environmental science or related field.

Responsibilities

• Observe and document construction activities, ensuring compliance with plans and specs.
• Test construction materials (soil, concrete, asphalt, masonry, reinforcing steel).
• Support environmental department tasks (well installation, sampling, instrument reading).
• Support geotechnical design tasks (soil boring layouts using GPS, observation of test borings).
• Assist in soils and concrete laboratory testing.
