Job summary

Schnabel Engineering’s Columbia, SC office is seeking an Engineering Technician to join our geotechnical practice. We value attention to detail, a collaborative work ethic, and a drive to grow as a professional.

Responsibilities include field observation and testing of soils, concrete, and asphalt; data collection and troubleshooting geotechnical instrumentation; environmental sampling; lab testing; and preparing reports that document observations and results for engineers and contractors.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required; technician certification preferred (ACI, SCDOT or AASHTO)
• Experience on construction projects; 2+ years preferred
• Physical ability to lift 50–75 pounds and work on construction sites
• Ability to read and interpret construction documents and perform tests in field and lab environments
• Strong mathematical and data recording skills
• Valid US Driver’s License and good communication skills

Responsibilities

• Field observation and testing of soils, concrete, asphalt, masonry and reinforcing steel
• Collect data, maintain and troubleshoot geotechnical instrumentation
• Collect environmental water and soil samples from monitoring wells and borings
• Perform laboratory soils and concrete testing
• Prepare reports documenting observations and test results
• Communicate findings with contractors and engineers
