Job summary

Schnabel Engineering in Columbia, SC is seeking an Engineering Technician to join our geotechnical practice. You will perform field testing, data collection, and lab work while supporting a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience on construction projects (minimum 2 yrs preferred).
  • Technician certification (ACI, SCDOT or AASHTO).
  • 40 Hour HAZWOPER Certification or ability to obtain in 6 months.
  • MSHA 24 Training or ability to obtain in 6 months.
  • Excellent mathematical computational skills.
  • High School degree.
  • Valid US Driver’s License.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Lift 50–75 pounds occasionally; able to negotiate construction sites, climb ladders and work outside.
  • Basic knowledge of Soil and Concrete Laboratory testing.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary, multi-office team.
  • Attention to detail and well-organized.
  • Strong work ethic and desire to perform at a high level.
  • Basic understanding of and ability to use hand tools.

Responsibilities

  • Field observation and testing during placement of construction materials including soil, concrete, asphalt, masonry and reinforcing steel.
  • Collect data, maintain, and troubleshoot geotechnical instrumentation.
  • Collect environmental water and soil samples from monitoring wells, borings, excavations, drains, and surface water bodies.
  • Perform laboratory soils and concrete testing.
  • Preparation of reports documenting observations and test results.
  • Communication with contractors and engineers to discuss observations and test results.

Job Responsibilities

  • Strong professional work ethic and desire to perform at a high level
  • Basic understanding of and ability to use of hand tools
Other Requirements
  • Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record, and credit check
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment screening

The compensation range for this position is between $16/hr to $22/hr. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
