Job summary

Schnabel Engineering in Columbia, SC is seeking an Engineering Technician to join our geotechnical practice. You will perform field testing, data collection, and lab work while supporting a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

Prior experience on construction projects (minimum 2 yrs preferred).
Technician certification (ACI, SCDOT or AASHTO).
40 Hour HAZWOPER Certification or ability to obtain in 6 months.
MSHA 24 Training or ability to obtain in 6 months.
Excellent mathematical computational skills.
High School degree.
Valid US Driver’s License.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Lift 50–75 pounds occasionally; able to negotiate construction sites, climb ladders and work outside.
Basic knowledge of Soil and Concrete Laboratory testing.
Ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary, multi-office team.
Attention to detail and well-organized.
Strong work ethic and desire to perform at a high level.
Basic understanding of and ability to use hand tools.

Responsibilities

Field observation and testing during placement of construction materials including soil, concrete, asphalt, masonry and reinforcing steel.
Collect data, maintain, and troubleshoot geotechnical instrumentation.
Collect environmental water and soil samples from monitoring wells, borings, excavations, drains, and surface water bodies.
Perform laboratory soils and concrete testing.
Preparation of reports documenting observations and test results.
Communication with contractors and engineers to discuss observations and test results.
