Job summary

ECS Group of Companies is seeking a Geostructural Group Leader to spearhead the geostructural engineering service line in the Chantilly, VA area. You will guide strategic planning, technical delivery, and client engagement while driving revenue growth and service expansion.

The role requires a senior technical leader with strong leadership and business development skills, responsible for project delivery, team development, and maintaining ECS Core Values across all engagements.

Qualifications

  • 10 years of related experience as an engineering consultant/designer in geostructural or geotechnical field.
  • Promotion path to ECS Associate Principal or Principal within 6 months of hire.
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related multi-discipline field.
  • Valid driver’s license if driving for ECS subsidiary.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Advanced project management, technical consulting, and business development skills.
  • Expert knowledge of geostructural systems: ground improvement, retaining walls, SOE, underpinning/dewatering, deep foundations.
  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills; ability to lead high-performing teams.
  • Understanding of consulting operations, budgeting, and financial performance.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow the geostructural engineering service line, including strategic planning and execution.
  • Drive revenue growth and service expansion through client engagement.
  • Oversee project delivery: technical design, calculations, reporting, and deliverable approvals.
  • Develop and manage staff, workloads, and team performance.
  • Ensure QMS compliance and adherence to company standards.
  • Prepare proposals, budgets, and project financials.
  • Support geotechnical project work during service line development.

Responsibilities

The Geostructural Group Leader is responsible for leading and growing the geostructural engineering service line, including strategic planning, technical delivery, and operational performance. This role oversees project execution, team development, and client engagement while driving revenue growth and service expansion. The Geostructural Group Leader serves as a senior technical leader and business developer while maintaining a positive customer service attitude and demonstrating ECS Core Values.

  • Develops and implements strategic business plans for the geostructural service line
  • Drives growth by identifying and pursuing new business opportunities
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with contractors, clients, and industry partners
  • Leads and develops a team of engineers and technical professionals
  • Oversees project delivery, including technical design, calculations, and reporting
  • Reviews and approves project deliverables, including plans, specifications, and engineering analyses
  • Evaluates contractor submittals, including materials, procedures, and testing documentation
  • Ensures high-quality technical execution across all projects
  • Manages staffing, workload distribution, and team performance
  • Oversees day-to-day operations of the service line
  • Ensures compliance with Quality Management Systems (QMS) and company standards
  • Supports geotechnical project work as needed during service line development
  • Prepares and reviews proposals, budgets, and project financials
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 10 years of related experience as an engineering consultant/designer in the Geostructural or Geotechnical industry
  • Capable of meeting the promotion requirements of an ECS Associate Principal or Principal within 6 months of hire date
  • Bachelor of Science in any of the multi-disciplined Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering and Management, Materials Science Engineering, Architectural Engineering, and Geology
  • If driving for, or on behalf of, any ECS subsidiary, a valid drivers license is required
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Advanced project management, technical consulting, and business development skills
  • Expert knowledge of geostructural systems, including:
    • Ground improvement methods
    • Retaining wall design
    • Support of Excavation (SOE) systems
    • Underpinning and dewatering systems
    • Deep foundation systems (e.g., micropiles)
  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills
  • Ability to build and lead high-performing teams
  • Strong understanding of consulting operations, budgeting, and financial performance
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced consulting environment
Military Qualifications
  • The following US Military ranks will qualify for this position IF they also meet the education and license requirements from the above section titled "Required Qualifications":
  • E-6/E-7/O-2/O-3

The expected pay range for this role and location is $150k - $190k/year. The final agreed-upon compensation will be determined based on specific location and other individual qualifications.
