Job summary

The City of Morgantown is hiring a Geospatial Intern to work under the Geospatial Services Manager in the City Manager’s Office. This internship provides real-world GIS experience and involves day-to-day municipal GIS tasks, map creation, data entry, and field data collection.

The role requires basic GIS knowledge, proficiency with Windows, and familiarity with ArcGIS software. This is a part-time, on-site internship with opportunities to learn and grow in a municipal GIS team.

Qualifications

• Candidate must be currently enrolled, graduating, or recently graduated from a two- or four-year college with a degree in Geography, Engineering, Landscape Architecture, or related field.
• Applicable coursework in geography, GIS, database management, image processing, or map understanding.

Responsibilities

• Provide support for GIS projects across multiple departments.
• Create maps for print and web distribution.
• Perform data entry and geometry creation.
• Perform scanning, cataloging, image processing, and organizing of paper maps and documents.
• Complete field data collection with mobile devices (e.g., Survey123 and Field Maps).
• Perform quality control of all data collected.
• Must be competent with Windows PC and Microsoft Office.
• May perform field data collection with mobile devices as needed.
