ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB’s Watertown, Massachusetts office is seeking a Geomatics Equipment Operator to join our team. Check out VHB’s Geomatics service page to learn more about this team and our capabilities!
Responsibilities
- Perform land surveying tasks under the supervision of senior Land Surveyors, including operation, transport, and setup of Total Stations (Manual and Robotic), Data Collectors, GPS, and other surveying equipment.
- Conduct reconnaissance and recovery of land surveying markers using hand tools, brush cutting, and digging.
- Transport surveying equipment and navigate through difficult terrains and wooded areas.
- Perform construction stakeout of proposed improvements, including installing stakes using sledgehammers and hand tools.
- Maintain proper care of all survey equipment.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and ability to operate company vehicles, including large cargo vans.
- Some overnight travel may be required occasionally for workshare opportunities with other VHB offices.
- Document all survey work phases through clear field notes and data collection.
- Conduct various land surveys such as boundary, topographic, construction stakeout, and utility surveys.
Skills and Attributes
- Willingness to learn the use of GPS equipment and manual or robotic instruments.
- Understanding of basic mathematical concepts, including geometry.
- Knowledge of boundary, topographic, construction, and utility surveys.
- Critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with team members and clients.
Qualifications
- High school diploma required; Associate’s degree preferred.
- 0-1 years of land surveying experience.
- Detail-oriented with ability to work in various weather conditions and outdoors.
- Valid driver’s license is mandatory.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
