Position Description

At the Anoka County Highway Department, our vision is to enhance and protect life through safe roads and traffic congestion elimination. We have an immediate opening for an Equipment Operator responsible for various duties, including road maintenance, snow removal, tree trimming, paving, ditch cleaning, and ensuring storm sewer functionality. This is a full-time, non-exempt, on-site position. Interviews are conducted as applications are received.

Pay & Benefits

• Salary: $55,640 ($26.75 per hour).
• 2025 Salary Schedule Grade 30: $55,640 to $75,108 ($26.75 to $36.11 per hour).

Job Duties

• Perform seasonal and year-round road maintenance, including plowing, sanding, patching, tree removal, paving, and ditch cleaning.
• Maintain safety standards during all operations.
• Analyze weather and traffic conditions to optimize operations.
• Conduct preventative maintenance and inspections on equipment.
• Provide traffic control and respond to weather emergencies.

Qualifications and Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of related experience operating highway maintenance equipment.
• Valid Minnesota Class B CDL with air brake endorsement, or Class A with tanker and air brake endorsements, with ability to obtain necessary endorsements within specified timeframes.
• Available for 24-hour emergency callouts.
• Pass criminal, driver’s license background checks, drug screen, and DOT physical.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in snow removal and ice control.

Physical Demands & Work Conditions

• Work in all weather conditions, with physical activities including bending, lifting, operating machinery, and driving.
• Ability to lift up to 100 lbs. occasionally.
• Use of various equipment and exposure to hazards is possible.

Union & Employment Details
