Job summary

UNC Health is seeking a Variant Analyst to lead and educate teams in variant interpretation within the Molecular Pathology and Genetics Laboratory. You will develop variant databases, apply interpretation workflows, and help design reporting processes to support somatic and germline panels.

Ideal candidates bring expertise in NGS, bioinformatics tools, ACMG/CAP guidelines, and strong communication. Collaborative, fast-paced environment with a focus on clinical molecular diagnostics.

Qualifications

• Masters or PhD in Bioinformatics, Human Genetics, Genetic Counseling, or related area.
• Three years of relevant experience if a Master’s degree; two years if Doctorate.
• Experience evaluating clinical validity, variant curation, or variant interpretation for genetic testing assays.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain variant databases to support targeted somatic and germline NGS panels.
• Develop and apply variant interpretation workflows based on professional guidelines for somatic and germline variants.
• Develop reporting workflows and quality assurance metrics; collaborate with medical directors and lab personnel.
