Job summary

MSD in South San Francisco invites a highly motivated graduate student to join the Translational Medicine team for a 12-week internship. The role focuses on analyzing genomic and pharmacogenomic data to support precision medicine and translational research initiatives.

You will work with diverse genomic technologies, develop analytical workflows, and collaborate across disciplines to advance genomics in drug development.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Master’s or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Human Genetics, Genomics, Pharmacogenomics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, or a related scientific discipline
• Experience analyzing genomic or next-generation sequencing (NGS) data, with familiarity in FASTQ, BAM/CRAM, VCF, FASTA
• Experience in Python, R, and/or other scientific programming languages, with Linux/Unix experience
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills for multidisciplinary teamwork
• Familiarity with pharmacogenomics concepts and cloud or high-performance computing is preferred
• Must be enrolled in an academic program and returning to studies after the internship

Responsibilities

• Analyze and interpret genomic and pharmacogenomic datasets using bioinformatics and computational approaches
• Evaluate data from multiple genomic technologies including array-based, short-read, and long-read sequencing
• Develop and apply analytical workflows to support genomic characterization and translational research
• Collaborate with scientists across disciplines to generate biological insights
• Communicate results through scientific presentations, reports, and reproducible documentation
