Job summary

Merck & Co., Inc. in Cambridge, MA is seeking an Automation Scientist to operate, maintain, and optimize advanced automation platforms supporting drug discovery and development programs.

You will manage multiple projects, develop automated workflows, analyze results, and troubleshoot systems to ensure reliable operation. Experience with automated liquid handlers, robotics, and analytical instruments is required, along with strong attention to detail and ability to follow validated protocols

Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on experience in laboratory automation for molecular biology with a focus on high-throughput genomic technologies.
• Proven ability to develop, optimize, validate, and execute automation workflows at scale across multiple plates.
• Strong documentation and experimental design skills (SOWs, SOPs).

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with biologists, data analysts, and experts to implement scalable automation workflows for high-quality data generation.
• Design and execute large-scale automation protocols for single-cell and molecular assays and CRISPR screens.
• Engage cross-functionally to drive impact on early drug discovery under accelerated timelines.
• Clearly communicate objectives, protocols, and results to stakeholders and leadership.
