Job summary

Merck & Co., Inc. seeks an Automation Scientist to join the Data, AI & Genome Sciences team in Cambridge, MA.

You will operate, maintain, and optimize advanced automation platforms and lab instrumentation to support drug discovery and development programs. You will manage multiple projects, develop scalable automated workflows, analyze results, troubleshoot issues, and ensure reliable operation of automated systems.

Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on experience in laboratory automation for molecular biology applications, with focus on high-throughput genomic technologies.
• Proven ability to develop, optimize, validate, and execute automation workflows at scale (across 96- or 384-well plates).
• Proficiency with a wide range of liquid handlers and robotic systems including listed tools.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with biologists, data analysts, and subject matter experts to develop scalable automation workflows ensuring high-quality, reproducible data.
• Design and execute large-scale automation protocols for single-cell and molecular assays using various liquid handlers and robotic instruments.
• Engage cross-functionally to drive impact on early drug discovery under accelerated timelines.
• Communicate objectives, protocols, and results through presentations and reports to stakeholders.
