Job summary

The University of Georgia is seeking a Genetics Laboratory Assistant to support graduate students with wildlife and fisheries sample processing, including DNA extractions, sample tracking, and data calling.   • Capacity to sit or stand at bench for extended periods, with occasional lifting of boxes up to 40 lb.

Job description

Genetics Laboratory Assistant

The Shamblin lab seeks laboratory assistants for wildlife and fisheries sample processing, DNA extractions, and data calling for population genetic analyses. This position will assist graduate students and the lab manager with sample tracking, processing of blood, eggshell, skin, fin clips, and swab samples, and DNA extractions for genotyping and sequencing for fish and wildlife species of conservation concern. It will also assist the PI with data calling with microsatellite and sequencing projects. Sample archiving and general laboratory maintenance are expected.

Responsibilities
  • Sample collection, tracking, and processing for DNA extractions (40%)
  • Data calling and curation (40%)
  • DNA extractions and sample archiving (10%)
  • Dish washing and general lab maintenance (10%)

Physical Demands

The position is primarily laboratory based; candidates will sit or stand at the bench for extended periods and may occasionally lift boxes up to forty pounds.
